Mathematica: Numerical Linear Algebra
Prerequisites

Wed 15 Mar 2017

Description

This course is part of the Scientific Computing series.

This course will cover using Mathematica for simple numerical programming, concentrating on linear algebra. It will indicate how it can be used for more advanced work, but not attempt to teach the details. The emphasis will be more on teaching what can be done than on teaching rules for how to do specific tasks.

Prerequisites
  • Prior attendance of the "Mathematica: Basics" course or equivalent experience.
  • Those attending should be able to use a plain text editor (e.g. emacs, gedit, pico, vi) on a Unix system as might be obtained from the Emacs or Vi introductory courses.
  • Enough knowledge of elementary numerical analysis to be able to understand basic terminology (like symmetric or non-singular matrices) and follow simple examples (like the solution of simultaneous linear equations).
