All Windows users in charge of a PC are STRONGLY advised to attend this course. It explains the essentials of keeping your computer safe, secure and well maintained. This is vital for PCs which are connected to the Internet (via broadband, Ethernet or even dialup). Every virus outbreak results in many PCs being successfully attacked because they are inadequately protected: avoid it happening to you!

Prerequisites

A basic knowledge of using Windows.

Format

Presentations/demonstrations. A follow-up exercise is provided to be taken away to do on your personal machine to help protect it; for laptop users there is a separate session "Windows: Keeping Your PC Safe & Secure - Laptop Workshop".

Notes
  • This course applies to personal computers only - domains, servers and network administration are NOT covered. Technical courses on Windows System Management are run from time to time (restricted to IT Support Staff).
  • Laptop users are encouraged to also attend the "Windows: Keeping Your PC Safe & Secure - Laptop Workshop".
